Rotherham women's football stalwart recognised for decades of loyal service
Val founded Rotherham United Women’s Football Club (formerly Kilnhurst Ladies) in 1969 when she was just 11.
She played for them for 30 years and has gone on to perform a variety of roles and is still actively involved to this day.

“Then one day (captain) Amy Pollock asked me to dial a number and I thought the call was for some sort of football magazine but it was actually to Kelly Smith, telling me I had won the award.”
Val played at the club she founded for 30 years and is now in her 52nd season.

“It basically progressed from there and when women's football took off we entered into leagues.
“I'm in my 52nd season. I've been a player, coach, manager, chairman and secretary. I have done it all.
“It is lovely to receive this award.”
