Wath RUFC and Dinnington tussle for top spot as Maltby keep up winning streak
WATH RUFC head into the weekend with Dinnington breathing down their necks in the race for honours.
Only “Points Difference” separates the two Rotherham sides at the top of Yorkshire One as Wath prepare for a tricky trip to Yarnbury, in third, on Saturday. Dinnington host third-bottom Hullensians.
While Dinnington took five league points from a 37-14 win at Harrogate Pythons last weekend, Wath needed a late try from Ben Cairns to ensure they took a bonus point from a 28-7 win over Goole, therefore retaining top spot.
Ryan Burrows, Patrick Selkirk and Anthony Davies claimed the other tries, all converted by Jack Whitlam in awful conditions at Moor Road.
Rotherham Phoenix went down 20-15 at home to Hemsworth in Yorkshire Three and stay fourth.
It’s 15 wins from 15 now for Maltby at the top of Yorkshire Four South. They won 28-8 away to Hessle.
Saturday – Maltby v Hallamshire, Leeds Corinthians v Rotherham Phoenix.
Rotherham Titans have a free weekend before resuming their National One title push away to third-placed Blackheath next Saturday (3pm).
