The steel industry engineering specialist has appointed COOPS Renewables to install 474 solar panels and battery storage technology at its premises, reducing its reliance on grid-supplied electricity and cutting carbon emissions.
The £160,500 investment will see the installation of a solar energy system with a generating capacity of 218kWp, producing an estimated 174,000 kilowatt hours of electricity annually and avoiding approximately 46 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
The project forms part of Danieli's commitment to developing intelligent green metal technologies.
As well as generating and storing solar power, the battery technology will allow the company to draw electricity from the grid overnight, store it and deploy it when needed, helping to manage energy costs and demand.
Andrew Betts, managing director of Danieli UK, said: "This is an important investment in the future of our business, which will deliver significant financial and environmental benefits over the coming years.
“As a company at the forefront of developing technologies to make steel production more efficient and sustainable, we recognise the importance of taking practical steps to reduce emissions within our own operations.
“Our ambition is to help the steel industry move towards carbon-neutral production through intelligent green metal technologies, and this investment demonstrates our commitment to applying those same principles to our own business.
“The ability to generate, store and manage our electricity requirements will also give us greater control over our energy costs and improve our long-term operational efficiency.”
Connor Brown, managing director of COOPS Renewables, said: “Danieli UK’s investment demonstrates the significant commercial and environmental benefits that businesses can achieve by combining solar generation with battery storage technology.
“The ability to manage when electricity is purchased, stored and used provides greater flexibility and can deliver substantial long-term savings”
Work is scheduled to be completed by December 16.
