11-try Rotherham Titans tame lowly Leicester Lions

ROTHERHAM Titans marked their first home match of 2026 in style against lowly Leicester Lions.

Titans scored 11 tries to win 73-24 and keep the pressure on National One leaders Plymouth Albion, with wing Jackson Barling claiming a hat-trick.

Rotherham held a modest 21-12 lead at half time after scores from Barling, centre Travis Gordon and hooker Luke Cole before their power and pace saw them cross the whitewash eight times against tiring opponents in the second half.

Rob Povey, Lloyd Hayes, Barling (twice), Gordon, Jack Baldry and John Okafor all crossed before front row Jamie Major took the home try tally to 11 on his first team debut.

Hayes slotted nine conversions and the visitors went over off the last play to claim a four-try bonus point.

Titans director of rugby Harvey Biljon said: "Leicester deserved their point, make no mistake. We had a couple of moments that didn’t go our way and they weren't going to give up but we made adjustments at half time, the players took the messages on board and it really opened things up for us in the second half.”

All-action number 8 Baldry was the Advertiser’s Man of the Match.

He said: “In this league there is no first and last place. Everyone can beat everyone.

"Leicester came in firing, especially in the first half, but we stuck through it and it was a real squad effort.

"Training has been unreal this week and all 40 players played a part in getting this result.”

Plymouth beat Rosslyn Park 41-10 to stay four points in front of the Titans, but having played a game more.

Rotherham are away to Rosslyn next Saturday.
