Millers bitten by Foxes in cup

CHAMPIONSHIP outfit Leicester City proved too strong as they put the Millers out of the Carling Cup with a second-half blitz at Don Valley Stadium tonight.

A hat-trick from Academy product Jeff Schlupp, making his first-team debut, helped seal a 4-1 win for Sven-Goran Eriksson’s visitors.

The Millers dominated the first half and took a deserved 13th minute lead when Adam Le Fondre’s low cross was turned into his own net by Matt Mills, the Foxes’ new £4 million signing from Reading.

The lively Le Fondre and midfielder Danny Schofield nearly doubled the advantage before the visitors drew level against the run of play on 35 minutes with a glancing header from Paul Gallagher.

Schlupp seized on a mistake in the Rotherham midfield to make it 2-1 seven minutes into the second half and then headed home for 3-1 before rounding goalkeeper Andy Warrington to complete his hat-trick on 71 minutes.
