Main men on Vase mission

THE FA Vase takes Maltby Main to the North East once more today – and with it the chance of more prizemoney and a place in the third round.

After trekking to Middlesbrough and putting out Stokesley Sports Club in the last round, they hit the A1 again for a meeting with Seaham Red Star from County Durham.

They are currently perched just below halfway in the Northern League while Main sit in the lower reaches of the Northern Counties East League.

Maltby have already accumulated around £5,000 in prize money from their progress in the FA Cup and the Vase and could bank another £1,000 with victory today, but they're also chasing a confidence-boosting result.

Co-manager Spencer Fearn said: “This is our first time in the second round proper of the Vase in 22 years and if we get through then it will be only the second time we have reached the third round. We're trying to break some records and after all the travelling we've done, it would be nice to progress and get a home tie.”
