Yorkshire manufacturer sets new standard for sash window security – built to work with Kubu smart sensors

A Yorkshire-based window manufacturer has confirmed they’re introducing a new approach to sash window security in 2026, as demand continues to grow for homes that combine traditional design with modern technology.
Quickslide, which manufactures uPVC windows and doors in West Yorkshire, has announced that from early spring 2026 all their uPVC vertical sliding sash windows will be smart enabled straight from the factory.
Wondering what this means? Each window will be manufactured with pre-installed housings and components compatible with Kubu smart security sensors.
The move is an important step for the sash window sector, where integrating modern security technology has historically been more challenging than with contemporary window styles. This ‘Works with Kubu’ upgrade is designed to have no visual impact on the window, with the sensor housings hidden within the window profile.

A timely development for 2026
As we’re already into February, the change is expected to arrive within weeks rather than months. As standard, sash windows will be manufactured to ’Work with Kubu’ from early spring.
Homeowners don’t need to request any special upgrades as part of the specification process – just buy the Kubu sensors online, and the windows will be smart and ready to go.
Quickslide has confirmed the updated product will be known as Legacy Protect sash windows, reflecting both the traditional aesthetic and the built-in preparation for Kubu sensors.
This means that every sash window leaving the factory from that point onwards will be prepared in the same way, ensuring consistency for homeowners, installers and developers alike.

Why sash window security has lagged behind
Sash windows remain a defining feature of many homes across South Yorkshire, particularly Victorian and Edwardian properties found throughout towns such as Rotherham. While prized for their heritage style and character, traditional sash windows haven’t always kept pace with changing expectations around home security.
As smart home technology has become more common, many homeowners now want to be sure their windows are secure, especially while away from home. Until now, achieving this with sash windows has often required compromises to appearance or complex retrofitting.
Built around Kubu from the factory
Rather than treating smart security as an add-on, Quickslide has designed its sash windows to leave the factory ready for Kubu smart sensors, with all required housings pre-installed during manufacture.
Not everyone is tech-savvy, and adding smart functionality is completely optional. Homeowners simply purchase Kubu smart security sensors directly from Kubu and fit them themselves once the windows are installed. The sensors fit discreetly into the pre-installed housings, avoiding visible alterations to the window and keeping with the traditional sash window appeal.
Once in place, the sensors can detect whether a window is open or closed, allowing homeowners to check on the status of their windows from their phone.
The Legacy Protect sash windows are designed to make this integration as discreet as possible, so smart security upgrades don’t come at the expense of heritage styling.
More than security alerts
Beyond basic security monitoring, the system also supports everyday lifestyle needs. With the optional Kubu subscription and home hub, window notifications are shared via Wifi instead of a local connection, allowing homeowners to access updates even when they’re away from home.
The Kubu app can remind homeowners to close windows when leaving the house, open them for ventilation, or respond to changing conditions such as bad weather.
For those affected by hay fever, pollen alerts can also help inform when it may be better to keep windows closed. The emphasis, the company says, is on practical, everyday use rather than technology for its own sake. In short, the windows are designed around how people live in their homes, with one primary objective: Helping to protect the home and those inside.
Keeping the traditional sash window look
A key priority during development has been ensuring that the appearance and operation of the sash window remain unchanged. The sensor housings are hidden within the window profile, keeping the windows suitable for period-style homes and properties in conservation areas.
This is particularly relevant across many areas of the UK, where sash windows are popular in many older and heritage houses, and where visual changes to windows are often closely regulated and scrutinised.
Implications for homeowners and the building trade
For homeowners, the change offers added reassurance without sacrificing the traditional character of their property. For installers and developers, sash windows built to ‘Work with Kubu’ allow them to offer a smart upgrade to customers without adding any extra installation hassle.
Because the preparation is standard across all sash windows from launch, there’s no need to choose between different product tiers or ranges based on security requirements. Quickslide’s sash windows will ‘Work with Kubu’ as standard from early spring 2026.
Looking ahead
As expectations around home security continue to evolve, Quickslide’s upcoming Legacy Protect launch highlights how traditional building products can adapt to modern living without losing their defining features and how Yorkshire manufacturing continues to play a role in shaping the future of British homes.
