Investigating officer Pc Ewan Brechin said: “This was an extremely foolish and dangerous act, which resulted in a train being damaged.

"We urge those who think that throwing objects at trains is fun to think about the consequences of their actions, which in this case could have been much worse.

"We would like to speak to anyone who was in or around the area to contact us if they saw anything suspicious, or if they have any information that could help us with our enquiries.”

Pc Brechin said local enquiries were being carried out, including speaking to witnesses and identifying forensic evidence.
