Update: Security at Rotherham Hospital stepped up after Thrybergh shooting

EXTRA security and police officers manned entrances at Rotherham Hospital today following a shooting incident in Thrybergh this morning.

Officers were called to Rotherham District General Hospital at around 9.20am following reports that a man in his 30s had been admitted with suspected gunshot injuries.

The man has since been transferred and is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries, said a police spokeswoman.

"The man is believed to have been injured in the Park Lane area of Thrybergh," added the spokeswoman.

"That road has been closed to allow for initial enquiries to take place."

A spokesperson for The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Due to an incident elsewhere in Rotherham currently being investigated by South Yorkshire Police, we temporarily had additional security personnel and Police Officers at the entrances to Rotherham Hospital.

"All our services continue to operate as usual.”

An investigation into the shooting is underway and anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 224 of September 23, 2020.
