MP Nick Fletcher backs Kemi Badenoch for PM

The Don Valley MP, who covers Conisbrough, said that one candidate was “the one for him” out of the list of those still standing, which includes former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak.

After Boris Johnson resigned as PM, the party and country is on the search for its next leader.

Mr Fletcher said he was backing Saffron Walden MP Ms Badenoch because “she has the strength of character for leadership and a clear vision for the country”.

Two favoured candidates will go before a vote of Conservatives members later in the summer.
