Mexborough Montagu Hospital braced for doctors' strike

PATIENTS are being advised that pre-booked appointments and treatment at Mexborough Montagu Hospital will go ahead as planned despite this week’s doctor’s strike.

Doctors across England voted to take industrial action on Thursday in a national British Medical Association (BMA) ballot against government proposals to change public sector pensions.

The BMA has said that all emergency and urgent care will go ahead as normal but some non-urgent health services will be affected.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Montagu Hospital, is asking people not to attend accident and emergency, hospital walk-in centres or the minor injuries unit with non-urgent ailments or illnesses.

A spokesman for the Trust said: “Both the trust and the BMA are absolutely committed to ensuring that the safety and quality of the healthcare we provide is not affected by this industrial action.

“Emergency and urgent care will not be affected and we are putting robust plans in place for our other services.

Patients due to have non-urgent appointments or treatment should attend as planned unless we contact them to say otherwise.”
