Det Insp Steve Smith said yesterday: “Reports made indicate that the two men may have been in an altercation with the occupants of a silver BMW.

“I would ask anybody with CCTV or dashcam to check their footage to see if they have captured the vehicle or the men around this time.

“I completely understand that people may be concerned following this incident. We have officers in the area who are there to listen and speak to you.

“There will be an enhanced police presence in Conisbrough throughout this evening and the next few days while officers carry out further enquiries.”
