“Our control staff took around 500 calls in a six hour window. Firefighters attended a range of incidents, including a large scale rescue operation at Parkgate, Rotherham.

“Meanwhile our support staff helped the response in all kinds of ways. Our work isn’t done yet, though. Be careful out there folks.”

Parkgate was among the areas still badly affected this morning (Friday).

One digger truck driver used his vehicle to transport people across the standing water.

Rotherham Council said to only travel if necessary.

The fire service’s tips include:

  • do NOT attempt to go through flood water either in a vehicle or by foot
  • call 999 if lives are at risk
  • follow your local authority and South Yorkshire Police for updates on road closures
  • listen and read the local media updates around travel and weather.
