Fire at Wellgate pub under investigation

A FIRE at a derelict Rotherham town centre pub broke out in the upper floor and roof area this morning (Wednesday).

Four crews were called to the derelict Masons Arms in Wellgate at 3.50am and used a turntable ladder to access the roof.

A fire service spokeswoman said crews left the scene at 8.45am and an investigation was now underway to determine the cause.

Last month, police discovered a £350,000 cannabis farm at the pub. Two people were arrested in connection but released with no further action to be taken.
