Update: Fire crews still at scene of Bramley farm blaze

FOUR fire crews are still at a farm in Bramley today after a huge blaze broke out yesterday.

The fire at the farm on Lidget Lane, Bramley, involved 5,000 tonnes of wood chippings, according to South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.

Around 300 tonnes of green waste was also involved, said a spokesperson.

A crew remained at the scene this morning as a precaution to check the blaze did not reignite

"The fire started at 6.17am yesterday morning, and we still actually have four crews there now," added the spokesperson.

"Often, we stay for a while during the 'damping down' process to ensure the fire does not reignite and is totally out."

As a result of the fire, Rotherham Council announced yesterday that Bramley's Household Waste Recycling Centre, also on Lidget Lane had to be closed.

In an update today (Thursday), the council said the recycling centre remained closed.

"Please use your nearest alternative recycling centre. Rawmarsh Household Waste Recycling Centre (Warren Vale) is open today to allow for excess waste," said a council spokesperson.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, said the fire service.
