Safety award for Rotherham station

EIGHT South Yorkshire rail stations have been awarded by a national scheme for measures taken to provide a safe environment for both passengers and staff.

Meadowhall, Barnsley, Rotherham Central, Adwick, Swinton, Wombwell, Chapeltown and Thorne North stations have been accredited by the Secure Station Scheme, which is run jointly by the Department for Transport and the British Transport Police (BTP).

Station operators, Northern Rail together with South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE), achieved the recognition having enhanced employee training, recruitment and risk assessments at the stations, as well as introducing measures to tackle crime.
