Should Dinnington’s green belt boundaries be redrawn?

DETAILS of a parish vote on future housing plans have been announced.

The poll will asked Dinningto residents the question: “Do you wish to allow Rotherham Borough Council to redraw Dinnington’s green belt boundaries to allow housing developers to build hundreds of new houses over the next 15 years?”

The poll will be held next Friday, May 9, at Dinnington Resource Centre, Dinnington St Joseph's School and Monksbridge Community Centre between 4pm and 9pm.

Dinnington resident Lewis Sadler called on the town council to spend £4,000 of its budget on the poll, and was backed by more than ten residents, which meant the council was duty bound to hold it.

Mr Sadler said he believed it was a good way to find out people’s opinion on whether or not Dinnington should give up large areas of its green belt for housing developments.

The anti-green belt development campaigner said RMBC’s Local Plan aims to build 1,500 homes in 15 years in Dinnington, but he believed a more sustainable figure like 500 would be better.
