Travellers leave Rotherham field after council and police intervention
Police attended the scene yesterday.
Travellers who set up an encampment on playing fields in Rotherham have left.
Yesterday, August 5, more than two dozen caravans, bikes, cars and motorbikes were spotted at Herringthorpe Playing Fields.

Sam Barstow, service director of community safety and street scene at Rotherham Council, said the travellers were served with a notice to leave the field.
Before the group left, he said: “The council are aware of caravans illegally encamped at Herringthorpe playing fields.
“Working in partnership with South Yorkshire Police, the group have been served with a notice to vacate the site.”
Police officers issued a Section 61 notice for those on the land to disperse.
This notice allows police officers to direct unauthorised traveller encampments or trespassers to leave an area of land and remove their vehicles.
