‘A new approach is needed’ MP Sarah Champion voices solidarity with Eastwood residents over fly-tipping

“A new approach needs to be tried that puts all the residences at its heart.”

Rotherham MP Sarah Champion has voiced her solidarity with residents, amid an ongoing battle with fly-tippers in Eastwood.

Eastwood locals recently voiced their concerns amid a decade-long battle with fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour in the area.

They recently held a meeting on the streets in the community to discuss the issues they are facing.

On streets and paths, residents are met with rodent carcasses, loose dirty nappies, and furniture chucked from houses, they say.

Following the meeting, MP Sarah Champion said: “I completely understand residents’ frustrations over fly-tipping in Eastwood and I have advocated on their behalf to the council and police for over a decade.

“Every time there appears to be a solution, a few weeks later the problem starts again. It is not for lack of trying or resources; I know the council and police have made considerable investment into the community – but nothing seems to stick.

“A new approach needs to be tried that puts all the residences at its heart.”

A Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) was introduced by Rotherham Council in 2019, renewed in 2022, and will last until 2028.
