Festival event will celebrate the community

Creativity and community spirit will be championed at an upcoming arts event.

Dearne Community Arts’ Festival will be held at Astrea Academy Dearne in Goldthorpe on Saturday September 26 between 11am and 4pm.

The festival will feature exhibitions of arts and crafts from local people, as well as performances on stage from both children and professionals.

There will also be workshops where people can learn new skills and have a go at something creative.

Lantern-making workshops in preparation for the Glowthorpe Lantern Parade on Tuesday November 24 have been funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and Better Barnsley Bond.

The event is being funded this year by Love Where You Live and the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, with sponsorship from Balmoral Tanks in Thurnscoe.

Julie Turner, DCAF founder and secretary, said: “What makes DCAF so special is the chance for people of all ages – from toddlers to octogenarians – to continue learning new skills and being creative in fun ways.

“It’s a free, fun day for all the family, with refreshments provided by the local Snap Tin Café, that really gives you a positive buzz and the opportunity to see how much creativity goes on every day in our community.”
