Costumed capers raise £10k for children's hospice
FUNDRAISING from a galaxy far, far away – for a cause very, very close to home!
A dedicated group of costumed fundraisers have been busy putting the fun into fundraising – and their super heroic antics have seen them raise more than £10,000 to support children with life-shortening conditions and their families.

The group, with members who live throughout Yorkshire and known as Phoenix Squad, is celebrating after raising £10,299 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice over the past year.
Since beginning their support in 2025, the charity-focused costuming group has brought the magic of a galaxy far, far away to communities across Yorkshire - raising vital funds and awareness through a packed programme of activities.
They have attended a wide range of events throughout the year, including White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds, Lakeside Shopping Village in Doncaster, Hornsea Carnival and Bridlington Comic Con, delighting families with immersive experiences such as Jedi and Sith training, 'Shoot the Trooper' activities and character meet-and-greets.
And the group recently marked the end of their fundraising journey for Bluebell Wood with a special cheque presentation at the hospice in North Anston where they were welcomed by Bluebell Wood’s Youth Group, giving members the opportunity to see first-hand the impact of their efforts.
Hannah Goulding, community fundraiser - education and community partnerships, at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, said: “We are incredibly grateful to all the members of Phoenix Squad for their amazing support over the last year. Fundraising like this makes a huge difference to the children and families we care for.
“To raise over £10,000 is outstanding.
“It shows the commitment and generosity of everyone involved, not only in raising a fantastic amount but dedicating hours and hours of their own time to support us over the past year.”
Paul Marquis from Phoenix Squad said: “Phoenix Squad is proud of all our members who utilise their spare time to bring the magic of the galaxy to Yorkshire, and thanks to the incredible compassion of the communities we visit, we have been able to raise funds for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice over the last 12 months.”
