Birthday joy for Kathleen as she hits her century

A CENTENARIAN in Rotherham had a special surprise on her big day - 123 greetings cards.

And her birthday postbag included a telegram from the King.

Kathleen Creasey, who lives at MHA The Beeches care home in Wath, spent more than two hours opening her birthday cards.

She also enjoyed a surprise garden party after the home decked out the garden area for the celebrations which included a homemade cake, a buffet spread and a cheeseboard.

There was even some live entertainment, which concluded with staff and residents all singing Happy Birthday.

Kathleen has two children, Iain and June, and worked as a nurse.

Home manager Lindsey Grady said: “Our activities coordinator put out an appeal to the community to see if we could get Kathleen a hundred cards for her birthday, and much to everyone’s delight we managed to get 123.

“It took Kathleen over two hours to open all her cards, but she was very happy and very appreciative.

“She had a huge smile on her face throughout the day, which was lovely to see.

“She had a lovely time surrounded by her family, residents and the staff here at MHA The Beeches.

“The kitchen team made her a birthday cake decorated with pink roses, which are her favourite.”
