FLOODING: Graduations disrupted and Rother Valley Country Park closed

STUDENTS will have to wait to celebrate their hard work after University Centre Rotherham postponed today's scheduled graduation ceremonies due to flooding.

The university tweeted that official advice from police and the local authority was not to travel to Rotherham unless absolutely essential.

Despite our very best efforts to enable the Graduation ceremonies to go ahead today we have been left with no option but to sadly cancel.

Many roads in the borough are flooded after yesterday's heavy rainfall and there are 25 live flood warnings and alerts in Rotherham.

Rother Valley Country Park said it was closed today and being used for its "emergency purpose" to control water levels.

It warned people to stay away from the area until water levels drop.

Firefighters rescued more than 100 people across the region overnight.

Forge Island Car Park is now clear of floodwater but is closed today.

Nearby, the old Liquid car park, on Main Street, is also closed and three vehicles have been submerged in the floodwater.
