Diggers move in as six-week temporary street closure begins
The temporary closure by RMBC follows the ongoing roadworks which have impacted businesses and footfall
Roadworks have this week begun on the six-week temporary road closure of Corporation Street in Rotherham town centre.

Rotherham Council previously announced it was “necessary to implement a 24/7 carriageway closure of Corporation Street, effective from 6am on Tuesday September 1 to 6pm on Friday, October 16.”
The closure includes the Scala car park at the lower end of Corporation Street, a popular road for buses, cars and delivery and commercial vehicles.
Added RMBC in a letter seen by the Advertiser: “Due to the increased traffic volumes on Rotherham United match days, Corporation Street will be temporarily re-opened to traffic to help ease congestion.”
The latest diggers moved onto the road this week following complaints and concerns from businesses who have already been impacted by the ongoing roadworks in Rotherham town centre.

Work began on the road yesterday (Tuesday, September 1) at around 3pm – nine hours after the original time stated in the letter.
Rotherham Council’s executive director for regeneration and environment, Andrew Bramidge said: “The road closure notice gives permission for the road to be closed from a given time.
“The actual closure may take place later, as they are implemented when it is safe and operationally necessary to do so.
“The road closure has complied with road safety measures to ensure the public remains safe as the works take place.”
