Police issue warning to disruptive children over reports of anti-social behaviour in Wath town centre

“Town centres are shared spaces and everyone has the right to go about their day without being intimidated, disturbed or subjected to antisocial behaviour.”

South Yorkshire Police have issued a warning after “ongoing reports” of disruption and antisocial behaviour in a Rotherham neighbourhood.

In a statement, Rotherham North NPT (neighbourhood policing team) said: “We are aware of ongoing reports of groups of youths causing problems and engaging in antisocial behaviour in Wath town centre.

“Can we please ask parents and guardians to have a conversation with their children and make sure you know where they are, who they are with and what they are getting up to.

“A little reminder that town centres are shared spaces and everyone has the right to go about their day without being intimidated, disturbed or subjected to antisocial behaviour.”

Areas around Rotherham have been battling with antisocial behaviour in recent months such as in Dinnington where disturbance culminated in a car being set alight.

At an emergency meeting on Monday, residents in Dinnington were told by Constable Lee Woolley to work together and share information to try and tackle the issue.

The NPT statement adds: “CCTV is in operation, and footage will be reviewed as part of our ongoing enquiries. Those identified as being involved in offending or antisocial behaviour will be dealt with accordingly.

“We want Wath to be a safe and welcoming place for everyone, but we need the support of parents and the wider community to help us achieve this.

“Please know where your children are and remind them that their actions have consequences.”
