Trouble erupted around the Holiday Inn Express at Manvers in August 2024, result in more than 60 police officers being hurt and damage valued at millions of pounds caused.

South Yorkshire Police say the investigation which followed was one of the biggest officers have undertaken in recent memory.

Their investigative work ultimately led to those responsible for attacking officers, damaging buildings and ultimately trying to burn a hotel down being held accountable.

Police estimate around 100,000 hours of film footage was gathered as part of the investigation, which was meticulously analysed to guarantee the perpetrators faced court.

Overall more than 120 people were convicted in connection with the disorder, with more than 300 years of prison time handed down in total by the courts.

Head of Crime, Chief Superintendent Laura Koscikiewicz said: "We are truly grateful for not only the messages of thanks and support in the immediate aftermath of the disorder, but the crucial role our communities played in the months of investigative work which followed.

"These results would not have been achieved without you. In the weeks and months after this disgusting display of thuggery, our local communities stood up and said this wasn't acceptable.

"From submitting footage of the disorder to allow our investigation teams to identify the perpetrators of the abhorrent violence our officers endured, to the countless suspects identified by the public through our media appeals.

"The public response to what was a dark day for South Yorkshire was nothing short of outstanding. Thank you for the vital role you played in helping make sure all those responsible were brought to justice.”

During the disturbance, attempts were made by offenders to enter the hotel building where asylum-seekers and staff were sheltering.

Police were able to protect them from harm and they were later moved away.

The hotel was not used for that purpose afterwards and has since re-opened.
