Community pool project is going swimmingly for schools
School pupils are making waves with on-site swimming pool
Pupils at Brookfield Primary Academy in Swinton are getting the the opportunity to develop vital swimming and water-safety skills without having to leave the school grounds thanks to the arrival of an on-site swimming pool.

The temporary pool will remain at Brookfield until the October half-term holiday, allowing pupils to take part in regular swimming lessons during the school day.
Brookfield is also sharing the facility with neighbouring Kilnhurst St Thomas Church of England Primary School, whose Year 3 pupils are accessing swimming lessons at the pool this half term.
Brookfield Junior Academy Principal Daisy Dunning: “The partnership is a great example of local schools working together to provide opportunities for children across the community.
“Having the pool on the school site means pupils can access high-quality swimming lessons without the additional travel time usually involved in visiting an external swimming venue. “Children can leave their classroom, take part in their lesson and return to learning, helping schools make the most of curriculum time while providing regular opportunities to build confidence in the water.
“For Brookfield, the project is about much more than simply meeting the requirements of the National Curriculum.
“Swimming is an essential life skill, and the school wants children to develop the confidence, skills and water awareness that will help keep them safe.”
The pool is being provided in partnership with Activ8 and Swim-Ed, who specialise in delivering swimming provision directly within school settings.
Alongside curriculum swimming lessons, Brookfield School, on Lime Grove, is also making use of the pool for additional opportunities for pupils, including after-school Fun Splash sessions.
