Police confirmed earlier today they had contacted managers at the hotel - previously the site of the August 2024 violent disorder – after a number of vehicles including caravans arrived at the car park yesterday (Wednesday, September 2).

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “At 11.45am on Wednesday September 2 we received reports that several vehicles had attended the Holiday Inn car park on Manvers Way.

“This is private land and officers have spoken with hotel management who will be making arrangements for the vehicles to be removed.”

Rotherham Council has since confirmed the local authority is working alongside SYP on the issue.

RMBC’s interim service director of community safety and street scene, Sue Procter said: “The council are aware of caravans illegally encamped on private land in Wath.

“Working alongside South Yorkshire Police, officers have made contact with the group, and a notice to vacate will be served should the group not leave the site promptly.”
