Arts giant gives thumbs up to Rotherham’s “wonderland”

A FAIRYTALE wonderland has received the seal of approval from a giant of arts and culture.

Literary charity Grimm and Co welcomed Darren Henley, chief executive of the Arts Council England, for a tour of its magical premises last week.

Mr Henley heard all about the organisation’s work inspiring Rotherham children to read and write.

He called the imagination factory “wonderful”, adding: “This delightful centre of creativity is an inspiration and makes Rotherham the envy of the country.”

Mr Henley also dropped in on Rotherham Shakespeare Festival at Magna, where he saw children from Dinnington Community Primary School, Ferham Primary School and Brinsworth Whitehill Primary School perform Othello.

The arts boss said: “Their talent, commitment and joy were all clear to see.

“Their families, friends and teachers should be very proud of these young people.”

He added: “It was great to see world class arts and culture in Rotherham, created for and by the people who live there.

“The Arts Council is keen to promote culture in places people may not think of first, when they think about the arts.”
