What to do during the NHS nursing strike during the Bank Holiday: Tips for patients

PEOPLE needing NHS services during the bank holiday weekend are being warned about potential disruption due to planned strike action by many nursing staff.

Industrial action is planned for 48 hours from 8pm on Sunday, April 30, to 8pm on Tuesday, May 2, when there will be fewer nurses in hospitals and some mental health services.

NHS South Yorkshire is encouraging people to visit their pharmacy or NHS111 online where possible rather than attending A&E or calling 999.

Anyone needing emergency medical care should continue to come forward as normal, especially in emergency and life-threatening cases.

Those with scheduled appointments should attend as planned — anyone whose appointment needs to be cancelled or rescheduled will be contacted.
