Morrisons Daily has refurbished the former Today’s Express shop in Upper Millgate, providing a boost to the centre – with cheaper and “ever-changing” product stock.

A spokesperson said: “We want to move it away from being a convenience store to create a supermarket experience in the town with more variety and better value products, including the same promotions as the supermarkets and the Morrisons meal deals.

"People don’t need to get on a bus and go to the Parkgate. They can get their shopping for the same prices here and the range will change on a regular basis, just like it would it a superstore.”

Shop manager Akmeemana Silva and staff will continue in their roles at the franchise, bought as part of the expansion of the Morrisons Daily brand, which includes the former McColl’s group.

The change is the latest instalment in an interesting five years for the store which was almost closed down by the council in 2019 following problems involving early morning drinkers. A complete revamp coupled with increased staff numbers and a compliance with regulations won it the right to continue trading.
