VIDEO: Flood warning issued with up to 40mm of rain possible in just an hour

HOMES, businesses and roads could be hit by sudden flooding overnight on Wednesday, forecasters have warned.

The Met Office has issued a yellow ‘be aware’ warning for rain with thunderstorms expected to hit parts of Rotherham in the early hours of Thursday morning.

But a band of heavy rain and hail could is expected to sweep across northern England.

A Met Office spokesman said up to 40mm of rain could fall in just an hour in places.

The warning is valid until 6am on Thursday.
