A PRIMARY school has paid tribute to a popular dinner lady by planting a tree in her memory.

Shadia Hussain was one of Treeton C of E Primary School’s much-loved SMSAs — or dinner ladies — who died earlier this year after a long illness.

Alison Hallewell, the school’s curriculum support manager, said: “The staff and children were keen to mark her passing and so decided to plant a flowering cherry tree on the school field as a lasting memorial to her.”

Shadia’s family, led by her son Cameron, visited the school to help plant the tree and to place a plaque in her memory.

The KS2 school councillors also attended the tree planting and paid their respects, along with headteacher Deborah Ball and colleagues.
