Top rating for Rotherham health commissioning group

HEALTH services in Rotherham are in good hands, after the town’s Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) was rated “outstanding” by NHS England.

NHS Rotherham CCG — the medic-led group which determines services to be offered to patients — received the rating in an annual assessment last Friday.

This is the first year that NHS England has rated CCGs using a four-category system, similar to schools watchdog Ofsted and care inspectors at the CQC.

These show patients how their local health service is performing in several important areas.

Rotherham’s CCG has been recognised for strong financial and service planning, as well as strong leadership.

Chris Edwards (pictured), chief officer at NHS Rotherham CCG, said: “We are delighted to be rated as outstanding.

“This national endorsement demonstrates the confidence that people can have in local health services.”

He added: “The dedication that our staff and GP members demonstrate is our major strength and we continue to harness their talents to enable us to make the right commissioning decisions.

“However, we recognise that there are areas where we can make further improvements.

“We now need to continue our outstanding work with partners across Rotherham to continue to improve the already high quality services for patients that we all care so passionately about.”
