Teenager arrested after man (24) dies in Kimberworth crash

A TEENAGER has been arrested following a single-car collision which claimed the life of a 24-year-old man.

A silver Ford Mondeo was travelling along the A6109 Meadow Bank Road just before 1.30am yesterday (Sunday) when it collided with wooden posts outside the Jet Petrol Station near Pembroke Street, a police spokeswoman said.

Police said they did not know why the car collided with the posts.

The vehicle was travelling towards Rotherham, away from the M1. 

"Members of the public assisted a 19-year-old man and a 24-year-old man in the car at the scene as the emergency services were called," said the police spokeswoman.

"At this time, it is unclear who was driving the car."

The 24-year-old man died at the scene of the collision.

His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. 

The 19-year-old man was taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, the police spokeswoman said.

Police are particularly keen to hear from the drivers of a black Seat Leon and a dark-coloured, possibly black, Seat Altea which were both in the Jet service station at the time. 

The Altea is said to have left the forecourt, heading towards the scene of the collision. 

Anyone who witnessed the collision or had dashcam footage of the incident should call 101 quoting incident number 100 of June 30.
