Six held for pitch incursion after Rotherham United match with Birmingham City

SIX people were arrested for pitch incursion after Rotherham United’s home match with Birmingham City.

Three men from Birmingham and one from Doncaster have been bailed to appear before magistrates in Sheffield on May 7.

The Birmingham men charged were David Armstrong (34), of Sheddington Road; Reiss Mahon (24) of Pleck Walk; and Callum Rogers (19) of Ann Road.

Jason Stokes (28), of Chestnut Avenue, Doncaster, was also charged after the New York Stadium fixture on Monday (22).

Meanwhile, two juveniles held after the same incident will take part in a “diversion” course to educate them about the potential consequences of pitch incursion.

“This is part of a national scheme, and shows a sort of restorative justice approach,” said Chief Insp Chris Foster. “Rather than criminalising young people, we divert them away from this and give them some guidance, as we do in other areas of policing.”

South Yorkshire Police has urged members of the public not to comment on footage of the incident, which was shared on social media.
