"Several" motorists injured in M1 collision

MULTIPLE people needed treatment after a collision on the M1 between a lorry and a vehicle towing a caravan.

Highways England said they had to closed the southbound M1 between junction 34 at Meadowhall and junction 35 at Thorpe Hesley just before 10.30am on Saturday morning due to the incident. 

South Yorkshire Police traffic officers were also called to the scene, and a spokeswoman said they had received reports that a vehicle towing a caravan had collided with and a lorry.

"Several people were treated for minor injuries on scene," she added. 

The incident caused lengthy delays and congestion as work continued to clear away all the large debris for over two hours, Highways England said.

All lanes reopened by 2pm.
