THE Covid-19 infection rate in Rotherham continues to fall, according to latest Public Health England data, with the borough no longer in the UK top ten.

The latest weekly figures show the infection rate per 100,000 people swab-tested between July 6 and July 12 was down to 14.7 cases - a significant drop of 6.8 compared to the previous week's number of 21.5

Rotherham previously had the sixth-highest rate but the latest data ranked it at 13th.

Rotherham Council pushed for more testing locally as a result of its top-ten ranking but the full effects of these extra tests - at new mobile testing sites at the old bus depot on Midland Road and the Herringthorpe Stadium car park - will not yet be seen in the statistics as they did not start until Saturday, July 11.

Further results on Covid-19 latest swab testing drive and where Rotherham stands is due to be released at the end of this week.
