Rotherham Greenwoods store to remain open after takeover

ROTHERHAM town centre has been given a much-needed boost after menswear and formal hire firm Greenwoods’ confirmed its College Street store will remain open despite the firm’s new owners closing 22 across the country.

The national chain was sold to Versatile International Trading on Friday and its new owners will trade in 40 stores, including Rotherham.

A total of 22 stores will close immediately but Adrian Berry, joint administrator, said it was the “best outcome for the business”, after being in administration for more than six weeks.

The news comes after one of Rotherham’s most-well known businesses — Eastwood Domestics — moved out of its High Street branch.

Other recent high street names to depart the town centre include Primark, who will close its High Street store by the end of the year and New Look, which closed in June, Clinton’s Cards, Thornton’s and Poundstretcher.
