Roadsweeper stolen from Droppingwell tip site

THE Grange Colliery gates were smashed as thieves stole a roadsweeper from Droppingwell tip.

The vehicle was driven through them after being nicked from the Kimberworth site in the early hours of Monday.

Rotherham Council put the gates in storage, saying they were a potential hazard to visitors to the park area.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “It was reported to police at 4.10am that the roadsweeper had been driven through closed gates towards Droppingwell Lane.

“Officers attended and enquiries are ongoing. If anybody has any information that could help the investigation, please contact police on 101 quoting incident 90 of September 27.”

A council spokeswoman added: “We have been made aware that the gates and gate posts to Grange Park were damaged early on Monday morning; we understand this happened in the course of a road sweeper being stolen.

“The gates had been left on the ground and were a potential hazard to park users, so our staff have removed them, for safe storage, until repairs can be arranged.”
