Road partly closed in Rotherham after car crashes into house in early hours

A ROAD in a Rotherham village has been closed after a car crashed into a building.

The house on the corner of Main Street and New Street in Greasbrough was badly damaged and left with cracks in the walls by the early-hours incident.

Rotherham Council said: “The road has been closed to traffic travelling away from Rotherham.

“Vehicles travelling towards Rotherham are still able to use the other side of the road.

“A diversion is in place and we advise road users to find an a different route and avoid the area to help minimise disruption.

“The structural safety of a building near to the road is being assessed by experts and the road will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.”

A police spokesperson said: “A report was received that a vehicle had collided with a wall of a property on New Street, Greasbrough around 1.20am this morning.

“Officers attended and the occupants of the vehicle had left the scene.

“The property is currently unoccupied.

The road remains closed from the roundabout of B6089 to the Ship Inn.

“Officers are continuing with their enquiries.”
