Region’s police join national campaign to recognise “challenging role”

SOUTH Yorkshire Police is joining forces nationwide this week to celebrate “one of the most challenging roles” in the organisation.

Starting today, #ResponsePolicingWeek will see SYP joining police forces up and down the country to celebrate the hard work and dedication of the officers who respond to calls from the public and confront criminals day and night on the front line.

The National Police Chiefs’ Council has worked with Oscar Kilo — the National Police Wellbeing Service — the College of Policing, and the Police Federation to deliver a range of initiatives, co-ordinated specifically to support, develop and recognise the role of response officers.

South Yorkshire Police will be implementing many of these to mark the week and pay homage to response teams across Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.

Chief Insp Kevin Bradley – the force’s lead for response policing – said: “Response policing is the foundation of all we do.

“It is without doubt, one of the most challenging roles within the organisation, and one which offers variety and excitement with no incident being the same.

“Around a third of our officers are employed in the role and, along with other colleagues, help protect the public and keep our local communities safe providing a 24/7 service.

“This week gives us an opportunity to highlight the crucial role our response colleagues perform and pay our thanks for the tireless service they provide.”

The week of action runs until Sunday, with SYP’s Facebook and Twitter channels keeping people up to date with what is going on using the hashtag #ResponsePolicingWeek to highlight these posts.
