Popeyes to take over vacant KFC unit at Parkgate

POPEYES will take over the long-standing KFC building at Parkgate Shopping, plans have confirmed.

The Advertiser reported in November that US chicken chain Popeyes was to open at the retail park by March 2023.

Now an application submitted to Rotherham Council from PLK Investment 2 Ltd requests external changes for Popeyes at the KFC unit.

A document from consultants Firstplan, on behalf of the applicants, says: “The proposals will secure the reoccupation of the restaurant unit and deliver clear economic and social benefits, which is supported by planning policy at all levels.

“As such, the refurbishment and improvement to the external facades in association with Popeyes’ occupation of the restaurant will enhance the viability and vitality of the unit.

“The proposed development is situated in an out-of-town location however, due to the established restaurant use and the minor scale of the proposals, this proposal will not impact on the vitality and viability of Rotherham town centre.”

A separate application has been made to add an extra lane to the drive-thru.
