A POLICE officer who served Rotherham and Doncaster for 15 years has given his career a new leash of life as a force dog handler.

PC Darren Wassell teamed up with 14-month-old German shepherd Caesar to complete the 13-week training course.

This involved the pair learning how to search for people and evidence in buildings, woodland and open areas. Dogs are taught how to sniff out offenders, chase and detain them.

PC Wassell said: “Caesar gave his all to his training and I am excited to put what we have learned into practice, keeping the people of South Yorkshire safe.”

PCs Matt Aris and Lee Schofield also graduated from general police dog training last Friday (21).
