PC fired for gross misconduct after making unauthorised checks of police records

A SOUTH Yorkshire police officer has been sacked after breaching regulations by checking computer records with “no legitimate policing purpose”.

PC Nabeel Khan, who was based in Barnsley, was kicked out of the force following a misconduct hearing last Thursday at the force’s Professional Standards Department.

SYP said in a statement following the hearing, from which the press and public were barred: “PC Khan appeared at an accelerated misconduct hearing in relation to breaching the Standards of Professional Conduct in respect of Confidentiality, Discreditable Conduct, Honesty and Integrity, Orders and Instructions and Duties and Responsibilities.

“The officer had accessed the police computer system on six occasions without a legitimate policing reason.

“He had also failed to report a notifiable association with two individuals.

“This conduct amounted to gross misconduct and the officer was dismissed without notice.”

The force said no further details of the matter would be provided as “to do so would compromise sensitive police operations”.
