New heating system and 8,000 new lights: Rotherham Hospital’s £7 million blueprint for greener future
ROTHERHAM Hospital chiefs are finalising plans to make the site greener by ripping out their dated boiler systems and replacing thousands of lights.
This will be the first time the hospital’s infrastructure has undergone major works — with the investment expected to total £7 million.

Hide AdChris Holt, deputy chief executive for the Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, said it was hoped work on the new Carbon Energy Scheme (CES) would start later this year and take up to 12 months.
The scheme will look to replace heating, hot water and steam boiler systems as well as the hospital’s combined heat and power plant, chilled water plants and 8,000 light fittings.
“The contract will see around £7 million invested in the hospital’s infrastructure by the preferred bidder under a 20-year contract and will be paid out of guaranteed energy savings the scheme will deliver and provide a financial return to the trust,” Mr Holt added.
Mr Holt could not disclose how much would be saved by the changes.
He said he did not anticipate the hospital’s services would be affected whilst the work was carried out.
