MP wants your views on the NHS to help push for better healthcare

ROTHERHAM MP Sarah Champion has launched a survey calling for people to share their’ “honest experiences and opinions” about the NHS.

The MP said this was in response to increasing numbers of concerns from constituents.

In collaboration with the Advertiser, Ms Champion has launched the online survey — on areas including ambulances, doctors, dentists, and mental health services — to identify issues and give her the “leverage” needed to lobby the government for more resources and funding for the local NHS.

Ms Champion said: “I hope to hear my constituents’ honest experiences and opinions on the different NHS provisions in Rotherham.

“The NHS is under a lot of pressure, so the purpose of this survey is to highlight the problem areas in the service so that I can argue more effectively in Parliament to fight for the high standard of services Rotherham deserves and ensure that the NHS itself is supported.

“The data I have been getting tends to be more national or for all of South Yorkshire.

“With this survey, I hope to get a big enough sample size of responses of people’s experiences accessing the NHS, good and bad, to build up an understanding of if Rotherham is reflecting the national picture or if there are failings fundamental to Rotherham, if it’s something that is going wrong locally.”

Earlier this year, Ms Champion expressed her “outrage” that record numbers of people in Rotherham were waiting longer than ever before for care, following NHS figures published in the summer.

Speaking after the launch of the new survey, she said: “In the last six months, more and more people have been getting in touch with me about problems with the NHS, whether that’s the length of time they are waiting for appointments or being discharged without the right support in place.

“The survey results will help me lobby the government for more funding or more resources.”

The health survey follows previous research the MP ran in conjunction with the Advertiser on bus services in Rotherham.

Ms Champion said: “We had a really good response to the bus survey which gave us the data we needed to understand the situation locally and I hope that as many of my constituents can take part in this survey as possible.

“The more people who reply, the more representative the results will be and the more leverage I will have with the government.

“All questions on the survey are anonymous, and it will only take five minutes to complete so it’s not onerous.”

The results will be published exclusively in the Advertiser.

The survey is open until Sunday, January 15, and can be accessed at
