Man arrested after Swinton hammer attack

A MAN was arrested on suspicion of wounding after an attack with a hammer at a convenience store.

A MAN was arrested on suspicion of wounding after an attack with an axe at a convenience store.

A police cordon was put in place on Wednesday afternoon after the incident at the McColls store on Thomas Street in Swinton, which was reported at 12.44pm.

South Yorkshire Police confirmed a hammer had been involved.

A spokesperson said yesterday: “A 22-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment.

“His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. 

“A 24-year-old Sheffield man was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of section 18 wounding. He remains in police custody at this time.”
