Inventor's bid to make Guest & Chrimes connection

AN INVENTOR who has tapped into the plumbing industry is keen to track down relatives of two of Rotherham’s most famous names.

David Newton, founder of Tap Medic, wants to find out if there are any family members of the Guest & Chrimes dynasty still living in Rotherham.

Back in the 1860s, Guest & Chrimes patented the multi-turn tap for controlling the flow of water which it produced at its foundry in Rotherham.

Mr Newton (pictured), who dreamed up a universal tap part to streamline supply lines, said he believed there were still 16 million copies of the of pioneering Victorian firm’s design in use in the UK today.

The inventor has teamed up with Dinnington firm XL Precision, whose boss Dave Liversedge did his apprenticeship at Guest and Chrime.

And now he is keen to complete the circle by getting in touch with any of Guest and Chrimes’ descendants.

“I love to meet them, and it would make the story complete,” he said.
