Hospital security staff initiated a partial lockdown of the department until the police arrived around 9.45pm.

An eye witness at the hospital told the Advertiser that police and security staff were inside and outside whilst trying to find the knife.

The source also revealed that ambulance vehicles were not allowed to enter or leave the building until midnight.

Officers undertook an investigation but confirmed that no knife was found nor were any other offences committed.
